The Opposite of Forgetting

The Opposite of Forgetting

Gathering the scattered members

We assume the opposite of remembering is forgetting. It isn’t.

The opposite of [re]membering — putting the members, the parts, back together — is [dis]membering: scattering, fragmenting, tearing the self into pieces that no longer recognize each other.

Trauma dismembers. Fear dismembers. Years of believing the wrong story about who you are — that dismembers too, quietly, one small betrayal of self at a time.

Healing was never about retrieving lost facts. It’s about gathering the scattered members back into one body.

Re-membering.

Becoming whole again, on purpose.
